I have been teaching 5th grade for 2 years and have been able to learn so much along my journey so far. I know I am just beginning my educational career, but I have already been able to gain so many insights into teaching that would have helped me so much throughout my student teaching and to prepare me for my first teaching job. I have also been a water polo coach and an art teacher for 2 years, so the content I create not only meets educational standards, but is able to reach students who are visual hands-on learners and those who need to move their body as they work throughout the day.
My teaching style is best describes as choice-based and student-centered learning. With the increase in digital stimulation and shortened attention spans, teaching has needed to be much more flexible than ever before. Traditional teacher led instruction no longer reaches the needs of the majority of students, so by teaching based on the multiple intelligences and adding centers and cooperative activities into the classroom, we will be able to reach students who have felt defeated or bored by school in the past.
