Paula Liz (she/her/ella) was born in Puerto Rico and raised near Baltimore, Maryland. She attended the Maryland Institute College of Art, receiving her BFA in Painting and MAT in Art Education. Paula Liz has over a decade of teaching experience at public, independent, and charter schools in New York, Texas, Washington, DC, and Maryland. She is also bilingual and teaches Elementary art at a two-way immersion school. In 2022 she was named Maryland Art Educator of the Year. Outside of the classroom, Paula Liz is the founder and Executive Director of Anti-Racist Art Teachers, a member of the National Art Education Association Equity, Diversity, and Inclusion Commission, Treasurer of the Maryland Art Education Association, and an initial cohort member of the Maryland State Department of Education's Anti-Racist Educators In The Arts Learning Lab (A-REALL). She has facilitated professional development for art educators worldwide as an educational consultant. She has written articles for SchoolArts Magazine and Stenhouse Publishers. In 2023, she co-authored "Anti-Racist Art Activities for Kids: 30+ Creative Projects that Celebrate Diversity and Inspire Change" and authored "Be a Creative Changemaker: A Kids' Art Activity Book Inspired by the amazing life stories of diverse artists from around the world." In her spare time, Paula Liz enjoys traveling, running, and spending time with her husband and two dogs.
