I am currently teaching 2nd grade self-contained (regular education). I have been a Special Needs Teacher with background in Autism, Visually Impairment, Multiple Disabilities, Resource and Inclusion. I have taught K-5th grades in elementary and 6-8th grades in middle school. I've also taught general education 3rd grade. I have been a Reading Tutor (Richard's Read) and owned a day-care. If someone were to ask me what I like to teach, I would tell them that every time I teach, I end up having a passion for what I teach whether it be teaching students with Autism, Visual Impairment, or teaching Reading and Language Arts to Resource students.
Update: I am teaching 2nd grade regular education. I teach students with special needs, so I have to change my teaching style often to meet the needs of my students. For visually impaired students, I like to use the Active Learning Approach by Lillie Neilsen. For students with autism, I use Velcro with many of my lessons. Students with multiple disabilities and autism sometimes have a fine motor skill deficit, and need other ways to show what they know besides using a writing utensil. In the very near future, I plan to add BOOKS in a BOX IDEAS to my store that I use for my visually impaired students. All of my students, visually impaired or not, seem to really enjoy these stories. Be looking for these Books in a Box.
