I am a high school/transition teacher for students with autism age 17-21. My students have moderate to severe disabilities. I work in a self contained 8:1:1 classroom and I have been teaching for 12 years. I am passionate about creating resources that are age appropriate for our older learners! When working teens and adults who are earlier learners it is important to provide resources with real pictures and age appropriate visuals.
I am a functional and hands on educator. I first teach focus skills in isolation within the classroom and then generalize those skills to the community. My students go to work based learning 4 times a week and participate in community based instruction. Life skills instruction, work based learning, and community based instruction are areas of instruction that I am passionate about!
Check out one of the work based learning program's that I started at Party City in Manhattan. They have featured my students on the Community impact page of their website: https://www.partycity.com/partners-sponsors
I have my Masters in Students with Disabilities grades 7-12 from Pace University. I have a 2nd masters in Educational Leadership from American College of Education
I believe it is important to respect our students and present age appropriate materials regardless of their instructional level.
