What educators are saying

I loved this. My students were so engaged and the resource was really easy to implement. So much fun and great information here. Thank you so much! I highly recommend this resource - 10/10!
This lesson is SO much fun to do with students! They learn so much about the ways that the Nile River impacted people's lives in Egypt, and they are also completely engaged in the game (especially when they roll the virtual dice!). It's a hit every year.

Description

This no-prep, game-based Nile River Simulation will be a highlight in your Ancient Egypt unit! In this Nile River activity with printable and digital options, students will choose where they will live along the Nile River, set up a farm, trade their goods, and learn about the geography of the Nile River through different scenarios!

Simulations can be such fun and meaningful activities, but they often take a lot of work and preparation to set up, which is why we did all of the work for you! You don't need to cut, purchase, or set-up anything to do this simulation, simply present the slideshow to your students and copy or share the handout with them.

This simulation features six different rounds of competition. In each round, students must make a decision about a certain topic or roll the dice to see what they might have experienced living and working along the Nile River. They will also answer related trivia questions about the Nile River! The six rounds are:

  • Where should you live?
  • When should you start farming?
  • Which way does the river flow?
  • Should you travel across the cataracts?
  • What are your trading skills?
  • What will you do with your free time?

The slides that facilitate the simulation are organized and take students step-by-step through the entire process. Throughout the simulation, students will calculate how many points they have earned. Finally, the slideshow ends with some optional discussion questions you can use at the end of the simulation.

This epic Ancient Egypt Simulation includes the following components:

  • Detailed Teacher Guide (PDF)
  • Nile River Simulation Slideshow (Editable Google Slideshow with 44 slides)
  • Nile River Simulation Journal (Student handouts available for printable PDF and editable Google Doc)
