Description

If your classroom is like mine during the month of March, there is a lot of talk about basketball! With the NCAA Men's Basketball tournament a big topic of interest, March Madness is a great opportunity to brings sports into the curriculum. This activity focuses all that basketball excitement in a meaningful application. To use this worksheet appropriately, students should already have a basic understanding of probabilities expressed as both fractions and percentages.

Tip: After the official bracket is released, print a copy from any major sports website. Students will use the bracket during the activity. As a fun extension, allow students to fill out their own brackets! Encourage them to incorporate what they have learned from this activity.

If you are looking for another basketball themed activity for March, check out Investigation of Height and Weight: Real-Life Application of Linear Regression! :)

Note: This activity has been updated and is ready to use for the 2025 tournament.
