These writing, acting, and artistic projects encourage students to take “ownership” of Macbeth—to ask questions about scenes and motivations referred to but not fully explored by Shakespeare in his text. Projects range from writing Fleance’s journal to scripting a scene that takes place “offstage,” to reciting a soliloquy, to imagining scenes from Macbeth set in contemporary times, to many other options. Students are asked to demonstrate their knowledge of the play through their use of detailed
