This product includes a publisher file with two pamphlets. One is a pamphlet convincing its reader to become a patriot during revolutionary times. The other is convincing its reader to become a loyalist. Students use the reading guide as they read the non-fiction book George Washington, Spymaster, by Thomas B. Allen. Eacher chapter identifies 4 academic and content vocabulary words that students need to infer their meaning based on how the word was used in the chapter. Students are also asked content questions about the reading for each chapter. Questions range from a DOK level 1 question to level 3.

The First Red Scare "Dot" Game
Randomly hand out the cards* after you have printed out in color and cut out (I printed them out on cardstock paper to make them not so see-through). Remind students to not show anyone their card or better, put the cards in their pockets. Then they must go around and try to figure out which of their classmates are "communists" or red dot cardholders. The goal of the game is for the red dot "communists" to sneak into a group of black dots. To add tension and heighten suspicions I would go around
