Over the last 20+ years, I've had the privilege of teaching Art to kids from kindergarten through high school.... in public, private, charter, and homeschool settings. While I've enjoyed teaching a wide range of grade levels, most of my experience has been as an elementary school Art teacher. I've also taught workshops for teachers to give them the basic skills and confidence they need to teach art (and teach WITH art) in their own classrooms.
Whether I’m teaching elementary age students or their teachers, my teaching style is the same… I try to encourage and inspire! I choose lessons that will be challenging but will also allow each student to be successful. I emphasize creativity and fun, and quickly redirect any signs of perfectionism by reminding my students that “only God is perfect”. Being organized and well prepared is essential. I always try out a new lesson first myself (before I teach it to my students), thinking about how I can best explain each step as I do it. When a lesson results in no two projects that look alike, I know I've encouraged my students' creativity and uniqueness to flourish!
It's always an honor to share my lessons with other teachers!
I have a BA in Aesthetic Studies (a combination of studio art and writing about the arts), a K-8 Multiple Subject teaching credential, and a K-12 Single Subject teaching credential in Art. I love taking art workshops of all kinds to get inspired with new ideas and techniques.
My passion is to encourage and empower teachers everywhere to share the joy of ART with their students!
