What educators are saying

My students really enjoyed this activity. I did them as stations around the room. They enjoyed being up and walking around. The passages were short enough for them to complete all 6 stations in a class period.
I will use this recourse to introduce my students when having to absent unexpectedly with substitute teacher

Description

In this War of 1812 readings and stations activity, students learn through a guided background text where students learn the causes of the war, the role of Tecumseh, and the Battle of Tippecanoe, before navigating the key events of the War of 1812 through a variety of stations. Students learn the role of Dolley Madison, the Battle of Baltimore, the writing of the Star Spangled Banner, Francis Scott Key, Battle of New Orleans, and much more!

Students will learn all about the causes and outcomes of the War of 1812, also called America's Second War of Independence. In this activity, students read an intro text with five analysis questions to learn what drove Madison to declare war. Students learn about British impressment, Tecumseh, William Henry Harrison, the Indiana Territory, the Battle of Tippecanoe, and more. Then, this activity uses a station approach to learn what is happening in different regions throughout the United States during the war. Students learn about Francis Scott Key, Dolley Madison, Andrew Jackson, the Battle of New Orleans, the infamous Hartford Convention, and much more! Enjoy the guided note organizer as students work individually or in collaborative groups to investigate the War of 1812. Finally, an optional PPT file is included to highlight some of the major events!

This resource includes a paper in-class version and a 1:1 Google compatible version to be used in conjunction with Google Classroom. Just follow the included instructions for how to access the Google version, then share the resource through Google or assign via Google Classroom. This will allow students to type directly into the document!
