Description

Help your students improve their reading comprehension and writing with vocabulary. This Vocabulary Word of the Day activity is a No Prep, easy way to include vocabulary instruction into your day-to-day classroom routine. If you're anything like me, I am always running out of time, but vocab instruction is so important. This year-long Word of the Day Bundle will help your students learn new words and improve their vocabulary in about 10 minutes per day. I designed this to be easy, fast, and fun for students!

This version is for grades 5 and 6. Find Word of the Day for Grades 3 & 4 HERE.

Each week, use the foldable vocabulary graphic organizer for 4 new words. Print this one sheet of paper for each of your students, they fold this into fourths, and you're good to go for the entire week. Teach a new word Monday through Thursday, and then take a quiz on Friday.

Vocabulary Word of the Day Activities with Graphic Organizer for Grades 5 and 6 includes:

  • A lesson plan format for the entire week
  • 144 words of the day (36 foldables)
  • 36 quizzes
  • 9 crossword puzzles to review words learned during the month.
  • Weekly Word cards to display on a bulletin board or front board.

When teaching a new word, students are asked to complete the following tasks:

  • Find two antonyms or synonyms for the vocab word
  • Draw a picture to illustrate the word
  • Write a sentence using the word

This was such a great resource to help raise the quality of their writing by using words that were more appropriate to their grade level. Students enjoyed the process followed for each word each day. Most students internalized the information and so did well on the quizzes weekly. I am grateful for this no-prep resource and the impact it made on my students!

⭐ My students were struggling with vocabulary in their STAR/AIMSWeb assessments. This has been a fun way to build their vocabulary!

⭐ These are a great addition to our lacking curriculum. They help students understand what the words mean, how to use them, and how they relate to other words. Thanks!
