What educators are saying

I used this activity as an opener for learning about the different types of government. I highly reccommend this resource. Each class came in pumped up to do the activity. I will definitely do this activityn next year. Thank you for the resource.
My students loved this activity! It definitely helped to teach them the different types of leaders a country may have. They wanted to keep going with it.

Description

An interactive simulation to introduce the types of governments to middle-schoolers. Students get to compete with each other in groups to see who can build the best straw tower with straws and tape, but there's a slight catch: each group must build the straw tower how their assigned government would build it. This is guaranteed to be a fun activity that students will love while simultaneously learning about different types of governments!

This Types of Governments Straw Activity includes:

♦ Instructions for six different types of governments (monarchy, republic, anarchy, dictatorship, theocracy, and democracy!) & how those governments should complete the task given to them

♦ Instructions for the teacher about how to complete the activity (instructions are available to preview)

♦ Evaluation sheet that lets students evaluate their peers

♦ A 26-slide review PowerPoint that reviews the functions of each type of government and prompts student discussion

♦ List of discussion questions to follow activity
