Description
Transformations of Functions - Mystery Code Activity
Students will practice identifying transformations of functions from their parent function given the transformed function. This activity includes horizontal and vertical translations, reflections in the x-axis and y-axis, vertical dilations, and horizontal dilations. Types of functions include quadratic, cubic, absolute value, square root, cube root, reciprocal, and greatest integer.
Transformations from the parent functions are described on the mystery code paper. Students choose the function (there are 10 total) that matches the description. Once they identify all the functions, there are directions at the bottom of the page to reveal the code. They can check this code with you.
This activity works very well in conjunction with my Pre-Calculus Functions and Their Graphs Unit.
