Description
Theodor Seuss Geisel.....A.K.A. Dr. Seuss. This pack includes a short close reading passage about the famous author. It is a high interest and filled with fun facts, such as what a pen name is, how he became known as Dr. Seuss even though he doesn't have a doctorate degree, his first and last children's books published, and lots more. It is a positive passage and helps share some of his accomplishments.
NOTE: This biography passage was updated on March 2, 2021 to reflect the announcement by Seuss Enterprises that several books are no longer being published due to some words or images being "hurtful or wrong". In addition, it discusses how the NEA no longer only focuses on Seuss for Read Across America Day as of 2019.
Please click on the preview above to get a better idea of what is included.
**** See below that I have submitted this passage to attorneys representing Seuss Enterprises and received approval that this pack does not infringe on any trademarks. ****
Did you know that Dr. Seuss's birthday is March 2nd? That's also the day originally designated by the National Education Association to celebrate reading across the USA. It's a perfect day to include this activity into your lesson plans despite the fact that the NEA no longer has a contract to promote it on his birthday.
Although I included lots of facts, there are many others you could talk about that I did not include, such as bringing in additional facts about his political cartoons during war time.

NOTE: The trademarked name Dr. Seuss is used in commentary (explanation), as a description of his life could not otherwise be described if the name was not used. No logos or trademarked images have been used, only a textual reference. Use of the names does not imply sponsorship or endorsement, as their use falls under nominative fair use. There is no capitalization being made on "consumer confusion", as there is no claim being made to the names, they are simply included to tell about the history and facts surrounding the topic. I am simply reporting about someone and not claiming to be someone or to represent the companies. The names are a point of reference and are not intended to claim ownership of the name. The only way to write an informational/biography article about Theodor Seuss Geisel and his life is to include the use of those names. To the best of my knowledge, the facts included are accurate, and of course this is through my own research. I hope you have fun reading about his exciting life.
I have a statement saying this passage and graphics do not infringe on the trademark mentioned above. For questions, feel free to contact me.
