    Description

    Need help teaching theme? Understanding theme is a concept that middle and high school students struggle with, so they need lots of practice. This bundle of theme lessons and activities will give your students the skills they need to figure out the author's purpose in any text.

    First You will give and introductory mini-lesson that teaches your students how to understand theme, complete with graphic organizers that they can use anytime they try to understand the theme a story. Then, you will guide students as they apply what they learn to a short story (link to story included).

    Put up the posters as quick visual reminders for students anytime they need to figure out the theme of a text.

    Use the learning stations to give students practice understanding the theme of any text you give them to read. This could be a short story, a novel, a play, or even a poem.

    If your students are reading different books, the universal themes placemat activity is a perfect one to help them understand the theme in each of their texts. It also provides a way to get them focused and thinking critically & writing about universal themes.

    Assign a one-pager for a unique and engaging assessment of what your students have learned about theme.
