In this guide I have included 89 questions that I have ACTUALLY been asked, and that you could be asked at your interview. For each question, there is a tip (little piece of advice) and a sample answer (the exact answers I used). Also included are an example resumes, cover letters, an example philosophy of education statement, and full lesson/unit plans that I refer to when answering particular questions for you to see how I integrate them into answering the questions.
When I graduated from college with my teaching degree (I’m certified grades 1-9). I was an excellent candidate. I had a 3.91 GPA, but I had a difficult time getting a teaching position. It wasn’t because I wasn’t qualified; it was because the city that I lived in was so saturated with people looking for teaching jobs that for each job I applied to at least 200 other people also applied! I didn’t have trouble getting interviews because I looked good on paper, but I lost the job in the interview. I went to quite a few interviews before I finally figured out how to nail the interview and get the job.
I started recording the questions that I was asked at interviews and I worked on perfecting excellent answers to every question. I then studied all these questions and answers until I could confidently answer each and every one.
I know these questions and answers are good because by using them I was finally able to get the job I wanted (grade 5 classroom teacher) and stand out above the other candidates. Actually, the same day I was offered that job, I was also offered a 4th grade position at another school! I was on fire. One of the teachers from the interview committee ended up being on my teaching team for that first job, and she even told me, at a later date, that my interview was incredible.
When I moved to another state a few years later, and needed to go through the interview process again, I went back to my notes and studied them again. I only participated in one interview this time around. I was hired on the spot for a 3rd grade teaching position. This is a true story :)
I obviously can’t guarantee that you will get the job because of this guide, but you will feel confident and be well prepared. Good luck!
