What educators are saying

Thank you for this resource. We continue to work on sentence building and understanding of structures, so this is a great support.
I left this activity with my sub. She said they were totally engaged. It's always good when students do their work in my absence.

Description

Learning what a subject and predicate is helps students write complete sentences. These worksheets, anchor charts, and activities cover Complete Subject, Simple Subject, Complete Predicate and Simple Predicate.

This resource gives students multiple activities to help them master the parts of sentences.

This resource can be used in a variety of ways:

  • Whole group instruction
  • Small group instruction
  • Enrichment
  • Early Finishers
  • and more

This resource provides engaging ways to help students master the Subjects and Predicates:

  • The posters included can be used during whole group lessons projected on the board and then hung up in the classroom for future reference.

  • The easy to cut flipbook can be used by students during whole group to write definitions and examples for subjects and predicates.

  • A cut, sort, and paste activity is included. This activity is a great option for independent work or for centers.

  • The "Explain This" Worksheet makes a fun home learning assignment or can be used in the class with partners. It allows students to create their complete sentences and identify the different parts.

  • The Texting Sentences Challenge makes a perfect enrichment or early finisher activity.

  • Once students have a better understanding of the subjects and predicates, task cards can be used as a scoot activity in the classroom or as a second center activity to help them review. It also allows the teacher to informally assess students' understanding.

  • The quiz/worksheets included in this resource allows for a formal assessment. There are two versions of the same test included to help meet the needs of students. One is just for identifying the complete subjects and complete predicates. The other is for identifying all four types of subjects and predicates.

This unit includes:

  • 9 Different colored sets of posters covering: What is a sentence?, Simple Subject, Simple Predicate, Complete Subject and Complete Predicate (red, orange, yellow, green, teal, blue, purple, pink, and a black & white option)
  • 1 flap page (to be cut and glued in a notebook)
  • 1 “Explain This” worksheet with Image (Students create look at a picture. They use pictures as inspiration to write complete sentences and identify the different parts.)
  • 1 “Explain This” worksheet without Image (Students create a picture. They use pictures as inspiration to write complete sentences and identify the different parts.)
  • 1 Subject & Predicate – Texting Challenge Worksheet (Students create a 4 part texting conversation with one sentence in each quote box. Students then identify the parts of the sentence.)
  • 1 Cut, sort, and paste activity & answer key
