Description
This unit has students learn the style, structure, and techniques used in making a persuasive speech. It works for any type of speech, but focusses on Graduation/Commencement addresses as they tend to have more interesting examples, and inherently involve students reflecting on themselves / their school experiences / their growth over the last few years. This makes this assignment fabulous for student writing and reflection too!
Graduation speeches tend to swing eloquently between tones (funny and sarcastic to serious and thoughtful, and back again!), and use a variety of styles and structures to get across a meaningful thesis. Stop forcing students to write and get them talking about something interesting - themselves!
Designed for diverse learning environments - students can complete it in a teacher-led class or use included scaffolding for independent learning at home. Submissions are written, but can also be filmed for digital/distance submissions.
The Package Includes

- Tone handout*
