What educators are saying

Used this resource in my gifted class as we began our study of simple circuits. My students really enjoyed it! It was some prep to get it going, but always worth it when the students love it.
This product is an amazing resource! :) The students were engaged and loved this activity! Thank you so very much for sharing this!

Description

Looking for a FUN, ENGAGING, and STANDARDS-BASED STEAM challenge? This challenge has students explore simple circuits by creating a light up Christmas tree.

Students build a cardboard tree with a light up topper. To add a math twist, students must stay under $50. Each material will cost students a specific amount, which they can use their STEAM bucks to purchase (all included).

The student task sheet, a brainstorming page, a cost sheet, and reflection questions are all included in this pack. There is also an introduction to circuits included (there are two pages of information included, depending on the type of information you want to teach your students).

The materials list for this challenge are as follows:

  • Cardboard 4x6 inches (1 per person/partner/group)
  • Copper Tape
  • LED bulbs
  • Batteries
  • Scotch Tape
  • Crayons/colored pencils/markers
  • Scissors and a hole punch

Included in the download are all of the product links to Amazon. They are all Amazon Prime eligible, so you can have them in two days! :)

There is some prep involved in making sure everything is ready for this STEAM challenge, so you will want to give yourself some time to prepare.

There will be more STEAM Challenges coming soon, so keep checking back for more!

Enjoy!
