Description

Take your robotics class to the next level! Maybe you have robots for your class, but you aren't sure what exactly to DO with them? Try a variety of leveled activities, challenges, and games! This robotics resource has beginning to intermediate coding activities for programmable robots that drive/move.

What You'll Get

  • Teacher instructions to explain the tasks and provide background information about the challenges (6 pages).
  • 12 Main Tasks (differentiated with 2 levels, 24+ pages for tasks), also includes
    • Printable start, end, target (3 pages)
    • Tracing puzzles (16 pages)
    • Dot-to-dot activities, with and without grids (12 pages)
    • Code-a-Story activities (create a story and code the bot to retell the story, 10 pages)

  • Recording Pages (2 pages)
  • Robotics and Coding Word Wall (12 words with definitions, 5 pages)
  • Digital templates to create your own robot tasks or word wall cards (4 pages)
    • Robot games - A variety of games are included in remote control mode, which allows kids to use the robots in driving mode but in a guided way. This is a great option to use at a class party or as a reward for a job well done on the coding challenges! (12+ pages, includes printables)

Which Robots Can I Use with This Resource?

While some of the activities can be completed with very simple robots such as code-and-go mouse, many of them require more sophisticated programming (as well as remote control access for all of the games). For this reason, I recommend robots such as (but not limited to):

  • Dash or Cue from Wonder Workshop
  • Sphero SPRK+, Sphero Bolt, or Sphero Mini
  • Ozobot EVO or Bit (with Blockly, not with coloring)
  • Finch
  • Other programmable robots kits, such as EV3/Spike Prime or VEX-IQ

When to Use These Activities

  • Hour of Code
  • STEM Fridays, Maker Mondays, STEM Family Night
  • After school STEM and robotics clubs. These tasks can be completed independently or in small groups. If you are hosting a robotics team, these activities can be used for students to practice programming or can be used as team builders.
