Are you looking for a hands on activity on REPRESENTING NUMBERS for special education? This activity comes with 24 different puzzles that focus on representing numbers from 1-200 using standard notation, expanded form, base ten blocks and word form. This activity is ideal for the Grade 2 Number Sense: Whole Numbers Unit, especially for students on modified programming or special education.
Key concepts
- Representing whole numbers:
- in words (e.g., one hundred fifty-eight)
- using base ten blocks (e.g., 1 hundred, 5 tens, 8 ones)
- as numerals in standard notation (e.g., 158)
- in expanded form (e.g., 100 + 50 + 8)
PREP & HOW TO USE
- Print (I suggest 2-4 slides per page so it is a smaller size)
- Cut around each individual puzzle piece
- Laminate so it can be reused year after year!
- Student assembles the puzzle so that it matches the number at the top
Example: 175 = one hundred and seventy five = 100 + 70 + 5 = 1 hundred, 7 tens, 5 ones
- Store the pieces in a ziploc bag or box
