What educators are saying

My students loved using this resource to practice citing evidence in their opinion essays. We worked in groups and they brainstormed together and chose which side of the argument they would be on. Then they worked on their drafting individually. Loved this resource.

Description

-This product develops opinion and persuasive argument writing with use of transition words and graphic organizers.
- This product contains 12 pros and cons evidence based articles for students to read and write their opinion about each topic for grades 4th, 5th, and 6th. There are advantages and disadvantages given for each of the 6 kid-interested topics.
- There are six different topics that have both a pro and con article for each so that students can use evidence from articles to support their opinions.
-These text dependent prompts are a good way for students to get comfortable with matching their reasons with evidence.
-There are 30 additional opinion prompts for students to develop opinions and give their own evidence with out text.
- There are two different graphic organizers - one with two reasons and one with three reasons.
-Once students get used to using these organizers, they are then instructed to draw organizers by memory so that they can do this whenever and wherever they need to (like on state tests).
-There is a list of transition words that can be made into a poster.
- There are debate flash cards that pairs of students take different sides and fill out debate cards giving their opinion and 2 reasons. Then we share in front of class and vote for most convincing reasons.
-There is a practice sheet for students to get more comfortable with using transition words about topics. They can be used over again for different topics and more practice with transition / linking words.
-Thank you so much for your purchase!!!
