    Description

Looking for poetry activities that gives you the flexibility to be creative with your lesson planning? The resources in this bundle are designed to allow you to do just that! You'll find opportunities for students to analyze poems, write poems, and play games about poetic elements.

The best part about this poetry analysis bundle?

You don't have to use it all at once or in any specific order! This poetry bundle is not intended to be a *straight-through unit! Instead, these resources can be sprinkled throughout the year, used to celebrate National Poetry Month, or left in your sub folder.

The majority of resources in this bundle are designed to work with any poem of your choice, which simplifies differentiation and student choice.

*If you choose to use these activities as an entire unit, you may wish to supplement with direct instruction for some poetic concepts.

    Look at the resources included!

Be sure to view each individual resource's description and photos for more details.

    • Music as Poetry - Students analyze song lyrics from multiple angles. Music is poetry!
    • Picture-Inspired Poetry Writing - Students find a visual that inspires them to write their own poetry. They make observations and inferences and then write!
    • Analyzing Diction - This unit is designed to encourage close reading. Students are scaffolded through the work of analyzing 7 different poems to study a variety of word choice elements. (For this resource, poems are already included.)
    • Texting Couplets - So much fun! Students write couplet text messages, practicing sound devices, rhythm, and rhyme.
    • Poetry Dice Game - Students play a dice game where they use game board elements to analyze a poem of your choice. Great for student-led review!
    • Poetry Journal Prompts - Read a poem and respond to a thought-provoking analysis question.
    • Poetry One Pager - Includes an option for students to analyze a poem and represent their findings in a scaffolded template. Also includes an extended response option.
    • Creative Writing - Combine the power of nonfiction with poetry. Students read a nonfiction article and write to represent the topic or a universal theme, using a combination of prose and poetry.
    • Figurative Language Truth or Dare - With this tiered game, students can interact with a variety of figurative language terms through both identification and application.
    • Mood and Tone - Using a unique angle of an equalizer, students track and analyze both mood and tone throughout a poem, story, or book. Tie into your poetry studies by using an extended narrative poem!
