What educators are saying

My students loved this resource. Students in my lower groups found it easy and quick to the point. I loved that this had visual models to help the students understand rounding. It was very easy to prepare.
My students were able to use this resource to help determine the value of each digit in a number. This has helped me discover place value misconceptions that some have when adding and subtracting multi digit numbers.

    Description

A thorough and flexible understanding of place value, including whole numbers and decimals, is one of the most essential mathematical concepts for students to develop. These resources are designed to provide students multiple opportunities to work with place value at just the right level.

This pack is organized, in general, with resources for working with younger students toward the beginning and resources for working with older students toward the end.

The first set of resources features thousand to ones charts while the final set features charts for billions to thousandths.

Bulletin board materials are the final component of this resource. These materials are ideal for use as a large wall display when teaching place value. Once introduced, students refer to these charts often throughout the year!

Select materials to display based on the numbers your students are working with.

This resource features both color-coded and black and white versions of all resources.

Information Regarding Rounding Whole Numbers Game:

This Rounding Multi-Digit Whole Numbers to Any Place game is designed to help students review and practice rounding skills.

Students roll a die to determine which place to round each number to. I find that this simple activity makes practice/reinforcement fun for students.

This file includes five practice sheets and a template for a die. The format of each sheet remains the same, so once kids understand the activity they can focus on mastering the skill of rounding.

Even if you give each student the same sheet, their answers will be different, based upon the rolls of their die. For this reason, I find this activity handy as a simple in-class assessment.

This Rounding Decimals game is designed to help kids master CCSS.5.NBT.A.4: Use place value understanding to round decimals to any place.

Recognize that in a multi-digit whole number, a digit in one place represents ten times what it represents in the place to its right. For example, recognize that 700 ÷ 70 = 10 by applying concepts of place value and division.
Recognize that in a multi-digit number, a digit in one place represents 10 times as much as it represents in the place to its right and 1/10 of what it represents in the place to its left.
