Description

My kids are VERY visual learners, which is why I made this resource for my kiddos. Included are 40 picture cards, each having a first line to their story. The first couple of sentences are sometimes the hardest for my 3rd graders, and these cards just give them a little nudge to get thinking about the picture and the rest of their writing.

There are a ton of ways to use these cards. Here are a few ideas:

*Center- Print a few of the cards at a time to place in your writing center. Kids can choose the picture they are most inspired by. Students will use the first line given and continuing using their own imagination to finish the story.

*Whole Group Writing- There are times where my kids think it's fun to write a story as a class. Project or show an image to students, brainstorm ideas, and write your story as a class.

*Morning Work

*Buddy Writing- Have students choose a picture prompt and write a story based on this picture with a buddy.

*Homework- Give students a photo writing prompt to take home. Maybe give your students a week or so to write the story to bring back on Friday to share with the class.

Also included are two graphic organizers that may help your students plan their writing.

*Character and Story Organizer- Students write specifically about the main character of the story, as well as the problem and solution to the story.

*4 Square Story Organizer- Students re asked to write their topic sentence(s), as well as to write bullets of the most important information from each of their paragraphs.

*3 styles of writing paper is also included (smaller-ruled for older students and wide-ruled for younger students)

NOTE:

These are all colored photos. To save on ink, you could print the pictures with 4 per sheet. Everyone's print options are different, but there is almost always an option to print 2 or 4 pages per sheet. This will cut down on ink, but will provide the same experience for students.

Please let me know if there are any questions or concerns!

Don't forget to leave feedback below so I know how this helped you and your students. :)
