Persuade Me! Year Round School Year? - Persuasive Writing Project - Grades 3-5

Students will first find out what a claim is, then read an article and infographic about the current debate of 12 month school years! Kids explore the topic and hear first-hand about year round school.

This pack explores this topic, while asking students to make their own determination on the topic based on the evidence provided.

• Students will then use the graphic organizer provided to write down notes and plan their essay stating their own claim.
• Students will then begin to plan a letter where they will take a stand, making their own claim using specific details from the texts they read.
• This activity allows students to read articles, while practicing using text details to support their claim, a common core writing standard.
