What educators are saying

It's a fun and engaging resource for students to practice verb tense. Verb tense is tricky. The images in the postcards are beautiful and they enjoyed seeing attractions in other cities.
This resource is awesome! The pictures are fabulous and I love that it's challenging enough for upper elementary-middle school students to work on a variety of past tense verbs (both regular and irregular). Thank you!

Description

Try something new and interesting to target past tense verbs in speech therapy! Writing postcards (with REAL photos) from U.S. landmarks and tourist attractions is an educational and engaging activity for older language students. The postcards can be printed as worksheets or used digitally using the Google Slides™ version.

This resource contains 20 realistic postcards to help your students use past tense verbs... functionally! Each postcard has a letter about the destination with 8-10 fill-in-the-blank spaces to add a regular or irregular past tense verb. A word bank of verbs (not conjugated) is also included on each page, although most blanks have multiple possible answers.

To work on past tense verbs at a more advanced level, there is also an open-ended version of the postcards. In this version, students write the entire letter. In addition to targeting past tense, you can target many other language goals such as

✅Creating written narratives

Subject-verb agreement

✅Formulating complex and compound sentences

✅Using description

Comprehension and main idea/key details (Just pair with an article, website, or video about the landmark.)

Your students will be interested to learn about places around the United States. This is a perfect activity to tie into history or social studies curricula, and it's easy to find online resources to extend each topic (the landmarks' websites, YouTube, etc.).

Here are the formats that you'll get:

  • A PDF with color photograph postcards that can be printed, written on, cut out, and folded by the student to look like a postcard
  • A PDF with black/white photograph postcards (that can be used to save ink!)
  • A Google Slides™ activity with fillable text boxes

This activity will give your students a break from the same ol' same ol' grammar activities (and give you a break from planning!), all while targeting past tense verbs in a natural and functional way!

SLPs and teachers like you have said....

⭐️⭐️⭐️⭐️⭐️ Shawna P. says, "This is one of my absolute favorite grammar activities to use with students for verbal and written practice! I use it weekly and the students have a lot of fun with it too!"

⭐️⭐️⭐️⭐️⭐️ Emily I. says, "I would highly recommend this product! I loved this resource because I was able to target several goals, including using past tense verbs. The students also really enjoyed learning about new places!"
