Description

This Linear Equations - Parallel, Perpendicular, or Neither sort activity includes both a digital no print, no prep digital version with Google® Slides and a Cut & Paste printable version. Your students will gain fluency and you will save time.

Your students determine the slope of 15 pairs of linear equations and then determine if the pairs are parallel, perpendicular or neither.

  • In the digital version students drag the pair into the appropriate area on the digital sorting mat. They can also enter the answers on a digital response sheet to send to you or a printable response sheet.
  • The Cut and Paste printable version has the same problems with room to add three more if you choose.

Students can work alone or in groups. This activity can also be used for HW or an assessment. Note: Students need to be able to find the equation of a line from two ordered pairs for two of the problems.

Included:

  • PDF with links to the digital product.
  • Detailed illustrated instructions on accessing and sharing this resource with your students with and without Google Classroom
  • Detailed illustrated instructions for your students
  • 15 Pairs of equations
  • Printable Cut & Paste version of the activity
  • Digital response sheet
  • Optional printable students response sheet.

to see state-specific standards (only available in the US).
Solve systems of linear equations exactly and approximately (e.g., with graphs), focusing on pairs of linear equations in two variables.
Understand that the graph of an equation in two variables is the set of all its solutions plotted in the coordinate plane, often forming a curve (which could be a line).
Prove the slope criteria for parallel and perpendicular lines and use them to solve geometric problems (e.g., find the equation of a line parallel or perpendicular to a given line that passes through a given point).
