Origami Project
- Google Docs™
Description
This project has students choose and fold a piece of origami. They will use the outline of the figure to create a polygon, triangulate the polygon, and use the Law of Sines and Cosines to find missing parts of triangles. Once triangles have been solved, students will find the area of each triangle (I teach Heron's area formula and Area=0.5(a)(b)sin(C) to streamline the process) to calculate the total area of their figure.
Great for remote learning and asynchronous project assignment.
Hyperlinks within the activity show a clear step by step process from start to finish and the rubric provides clear evidence of what is expected from students. The example shown was intentionally not a perfect project to encourage students to go beyond what is presented to them. Feel free to create your own images and create the hyperlinks to make it more personal to your class.
