Description
Calling All SLPs! Target Opposites and Vocabulary Building. This resource is perfect for your entire individual and group sessions. It introduces language targets in a meaningful manner and teaches concepts in context, not in isolation. All activities are related to a specific summer topic: candies.
The packet includes:
- A play-based candy stand set-up activity: The students receive a letter from Mr. Joe, popcorn stand owner at the local amusement park. He needs help setting up a new candy stand and invites the students to help him out.
The students will need to follow specific set-up instructions from Mr. Joe who left them a note.Â
This hands-on activity will keep the students engaged while they improve their understanding of the following opposites: top/bottom, big/small, empty/full, and hard/soft
- Opposite Puzzles: Mr. Joe leaves the students a thank-you note. He is pleased with his candy stand.Â
As a token of his appreciation, Mr. Joe leaves a gift for the students: fun puzzles that the students can put together to learn about opposites.Â
Colour as well as black and white versions are included. The puzzles target the following eighteen opposite pairs:
soft/hard
full/empty
small/big
sweet/sour
yummy/yucky
same/different
near/far
rough/smooth
happy/sad
tall/short
fast/slow
awake/asleep
front/back
hot/cold
heavy/light
loud/quiet
open/closed
day/night
- Opposite Cards: For this fun activity, the students will have to act out different scenarios to demonstrate opposites.Â
All tasks involve gross motor activities to maintain the students’ engagement and participation levels.Â
There are twelve opposite pairs to act out.Â
