Description

INTRODUCTION

Hello fellow educators!  I’m Kristen Gineman and I teach 4th Grade.  I pride myself on my organizational skills and enjoy creating usable documents from troves of data.  I hope you enjoy using this product as much as I have!

Purpose

I enjoy using my MAP data to inform my instruction, especially at a differentiated level.  The Learning Continuum report is wonderful in offering up the information that I need to make sound groups and it guides my small group instruction for next level learning.  However, the report is long and unusable during teaching.  Also, there is so much repetitive information in each RIT band, that it is hard to locate what is new.  Therefore, I created a condensed version.  Below, I will tell you exactly how to utilize the continuum in this format.

Use

I have printed these documents single sided and laminated them.  Then I hole punch and place in a three ring binder.  I write the students names in their RIT band (instructions below) and use a wet erase marker so I can change them after winter MAP or as I feel students progress in my groups.

There is a "Base" of skills in the first RIT band (161-170) and "New" skills are listed in each RIT band afterward. In Example: It is assumed that students in RIT band 191-200 have shown some mastery in all standards covered in the prior RIT bands. Therefore, I have removed all of the mastered skills so you can focus on what to introduce and work on based on how they scored. Skills to the left should be reviewed always and skills to the right are ready to be introduced. Skills in the current RIT band should be your focus in teaching.

Instructions

Step 1: Print Document Single Sided on Letter Sized Paper if printing

Step 2: Staple Three Times Along the Top or Hole Punch Along the Top for Binder

Step 3: Log into your MAP account

Step 4: Click on "Map Growth Reports" on the left, under "View Reports"

Step 5: Click on the "Class Breakdown" report

Step 6: Ensure the Term Tested is on the Most Current Term in which you Tested

Step 7: Under "Report Options" select "By Instructional Areal"

Step 8: Under "Subject" select Math

Step 9: Click "Create PDF Report"

You will now have a report detailing where each child is in Math. Please note that they are no longer only broken down by their overall score, but instead, by their score in several areas. You will notice some scores do not seem to match up. For instance, a child who has an overall average score of 193 might actually be listed in the 171-180 band for Measurement and Data and the 201-210 for Geometry. Next to their name though, you will only see the 193. This info allows you to create more specific grouping based on what you are teaching.

Using this report, write in the students names in the "Students" box for the four Math Categories: Operations and Algebraic Thinking, Numbers and Operations, Measurement and Data, and Geometry.   There are subcategories. For instance, in Measurement and Data you will see it sectioned out into Geometric Measurement and Problem Solving, Represent and Interpret Data, and finally Reason with Shapes, Attributes, and Coordinate Planes. I have kept these separated in this document as each contains very specific information. However, the one score on the "Class Breakdown" report in this area applies to all of the sub areas as well.
