Mood & Tone using word choice in Wonder by R.J. Palacio

This product is an interactive PowerPoint that can be used on a SMART Board or Epson Board but can also be used sans interactions.

Mood and tone are super tricky to both differentiate and to determine while reading. Students will be able to activate their prior knowledge through the use of the Do Now - which includes a clip from the movie Inside Out. Then, students will play clips from commonly-known tunes and match them with the appropriate emotion and Emoji.

This PowerPoint contains a mini-lesson to use with the book Wonder by R.J. Palacio. Students will practice analyzing the specific use of words by the author and the impact these word choices have on the meaning and tone of the text. The PowerPoint includes an "unpacked" Common Core student-friendly learning objective.
