Description
Finding the Main Idea and Supporting Details of Nonfiction Text PowerPoint, Notes and Test Prep
Teach your students the importance of identifying the main idea and supporting details of a non-fiction paragraph. Students will be taught to look at the beginning and end of paragraphs, as well as finding a topic and asking themselves "what is the author trying to tell me about the topic?", to decipher the main idea.
Students will then explore supporting details, and how they support the main idea. They'll be given examples to find the detail that supports the main idea, as well as finding supporting details that do not belong.
This presentation is designed to aid you with the following Common Core Standard for grades 3 and 4:
CCSS.ELA-Literacy.RI.2 Determine the main idea of a text; recount the key details and explain how they support the main idea.
As always...this presentation is thematically based, and fully animated to ensure students will be engaged in the learning process.
