What educators are saying

This resource has saved my life with helping me to be so much more organized and to stress less as the year goes on. Thank you so much for this helpful and invaluable resource!
This was a great resource as I retooled my curriculum this summer. I liked all the options for planning by different functions, such as artistic process and musical element, as well as a rubric template and song & resource list.

Description

Writing or revising your general music curriculum to fit the new National Core Arts standards? This set will help guide you through the process and help you design a scope and sequence that fits the needs of your context, teaching methodology, and philosophy.

Included in this set:
3 scope and sequence forms to guide you through the creation of a scope and sequence based on key musical elements and the artistic processes represented in the national standards (create, perform, respond, connect). Each of these forms is a completely editable Word document, so you can edit it to suit your exact needs.
An assessment rubric template to use to create common or standardized assessments for assessing the standards and skills in your curriculum. A sample completed rubric is included as well as a reference.
A songs and resources list template to get all of your lesson ideas to address each standard all in one place.
Teacher tips and suggestions for thinking through the new standards and applying them to a curriculum based on the old national standards, with links to both the old and new national standards for general music.
A skills progression / sequence that I personally use for my K-6 classes in a list format for your reference, or to use as a starting point for your own curriculum planning.

I approach my teaching from a background in Orff, Kodaly, and Dalcroze, as well as experience with national music curricula from the U.K., USA, and Japan and in both private and public, urban and suburban, Title 1 and high SES settings. My teaching is informed by this wide range of influences, and the curriculum tools included here are designed to allow for a range of approaches as well.

This resource is meant to support you in the creation of your own curriculum, based on the new National Core Arts standards.
