What educators are saying

This is so sweet!!! My students loved hugging their book babies. It's been great to remind them about caring for their books as the year has gone on as well.
This really spoke to the young students I teach. It helps them to remember how to treat their library books.

Description

Want to help your students learn how to take care of their library books? Here's a colorful, memorable way to teach that lesson!

Included in this download are:

  • printable letters and graphics to create a display poster/anchor chart to use all year;
  • the Book Baby song on illustrated pages to flip as your class sings (black and white & color versions);
  • the Book Baby game, asking your students questions about how to treat their Book Baby, allowing them to answer "YES" or "NO" as a group for your library lesson;
  • Book Baby printable bookmarks to send home with library books (black and white & color versions), for parent information;
  • Book Baby printable activities, so students can draw a picture of how they treat a book like a baby; and
  • Hug Your Book chant for going into the hallway!

I use these in my elementary school library to help my students learn to be gentle with the library books they check out. I like to be positive and encouraging as I teach this library skill.

I use this song and game as a review throughout the school year, too. Once you have them printed, you can easily remind students later on if they forget how to take care of their books.

What are teachers and librarians saying about this library book care lesson?

⭐️⭐️⭐️⭐️⭐️ "I LOVED THIS LESSON! This is my first year in the library and I used this with the kindergarteners in the week prior to their first check out. When it was finally time to take home their 'baby' they were so excited. We 'tucked' the books into a Ziploc bag and added a tissue as a blanket. Teachers around the school commented on the cuteness of the K kids walking in line, carrying their 'book baby'. Now each week they get excited to get a new book baby..... ;) Five year olds are hilarious!" (Thank you, Kelly R.!)

⭐️⭐️⭐️⭐️⭐️ "Very FUN lesson idea. My kindergarteners had a great time learning about how the "baby" book needed to be treated." (Thank you, Buyer!)

⭐️⭐️⭐️⭐️⭐️ "This is AMAZING! It's crazy enough to get my students to pay attention." (Thank you, Amen R.!
