Description

Everyone can learn to draw! Drawing is a life skill that helps us communicate visually at home, at school, and at work. And Contour Drawing is one of the best ways to develop and hone your drawing skills.

Contour Drawing helps you learn to “see like an artist”. This means noticing details and relationships of lines and shapes that the average person overlooks. It’s about observing and drawing what you actually see, instead of a stereotyped image of what you think you should see.

But having good observation skills will go well beyond the obvious art-related benefits you might expect. Careful observation is critically important in the scientific method as well as in most fields of study. In fact, there is hardly an area of life that doesn't benefit when observation skills are strengthened and improved.

Most people go through life without looking carefully at the world around them. Contour Drawing helps you break this habit as you train your eyes to notice the unique details and relationships that are a part of everything you see. You’ll soon find yourself paying closer attention and observing the world in a whole new way!

This 14-page pdf will help you teach your students (grades 3 and up) the three main types of Contour Drawing: Blind Contour, Memory Contour, and Guided Contour, plus a fourth method which I call Touch Contour. My detailed explanations and helpful tips will enable you to be successful in teaching Contour Drawing even if you don’t yet feel confident in your own drawing skills.

I like to teach these four fun activities together in one 50 minute session, but you can also teach them separately over several smaller blocks of time. And if you have more time, that's even better because students won’t want to stop! I also include two fun Bonus Activities as extensions to the main lesson so students can continue developing their new skills.

Contour Drawing not only trains you to see like an artist, but it's also great for developing eye/hand coordination. Plus, it’s FUN and rewarding! “Learning to Draw with Contour Drawing” will show you how!
