"Lamb to the Slaughter" Mock Trial Directions

My students read "Lamb to the Slaughter" by Roald Dahl every fall and this mock trial is always a lesson they remember and ask to do over and over. Unfortunately it doesn't fit with every piece of literature. The lesson requires close reading, critical thinking, argument writing, oral communication, as well as comprehension of the story.

This product includes a one-page directions sheet for the teacher, as well as directions to be printed and handed to each of the following: prosecution, defense, witnesses, judge, and bailiff. I am able to hand the directions to each group and then facilitate as needed while students work together.

The teacher directions are set up so that 23 students have roles in the trial, while any other students make up the jury. However it could easily be adapted for more or less students by reducing or increasing the number of students on the defense or prosecution team.
