Use this introduction to archetypes WebQuest activity to introduce archetypal analysis to your students in a creative, fun, and engaging way. After completing the web-quest, students will be able to:
- Define the term "archetype"
- Explain who created the term and why (Carl Jung & "collective unconscious")
- Effectively communicate how archetypes are different than stereotypes
- Outline 4 major archetypal categories.
- Interact with several specific archetypes on a personal level by researching and finding examples for ones that interest them.
This activity not only teaches students how to understand and analyze archetypes, but it is an excellent way to have them practice certain technological skills as well:
- The will engage in online articles, practicing how to use them to answer pointed research questions
- They can practice source validity when finding their own websites to use for their research.
When students finish the web quest, place them in small groups and have them share their examples with each other. The conversations are quite interesting and students seem to love sharing about their favorite movies and books!
Here's what Teachers like you are saying!
⭐⭐⭐⭐⭐ This was DAY 2 of my World Mythology class, and it worked so well, I used it as a get-to-know-you activity with my others. Relevance to daily life is essential, especially when we (at the time) were not learning in-person. I will use this again - highly recommend! – Kimberly
⭐⭐⭐⭐⭐ This really engaged my students by introducing them to the concept of archetypes. After completing the webquest, students had rich discussions in their groups about archetypes they have seen in works they have read. - Harold
⭐⭐⭐⭐⭐ My students began working on this immediately and were fully engaged in securing their answers for the entire time. As we went over the answers, students were able to fully participate and show me understanding about what they answered and why they answered the way they did. They were able to describe archetypes and give me many examples from which to draw from. - Aubrey
