Description
C'est l'Halloween! Looking for a creative French Halloween mini-unit for secondary Core French or Immersion students? If you said yes, this creative unit on a unique aspect of la francophonie is just for you! Your French students will explore the famous Parisian cemetery Père-Lachaise and learn about celebrities whose final resting place happens to be Père-Lachaise.
This is a unit where students will learn about the most visited necropolis in the world and learn about the lives and accomplishments of celebrities who rest there. This resource is ideal for advanced FSL students or intermediate-advanced French Immersion.
This resource contains :
1. A research activity (written)
Students will research one famous resident of the cemetery. On their feuille de route, they will outline the birthdate, date of death, their career & lifetime accomplishments, and interesting facts. Final draft is in the form of a tombstone.
2. A museum-style presentation activity
Students will present their celebrity to their classmates and record important information on their worksheet
3. A virtual tour
Without leaving our classrooms, students will be able to visit the cemetery by watching a video walk-through. On their corresponding handout, students will describe what they see and hear & illustrate scenes that stand out to them.
4. A reading comprehension activity on the history of the cemetery
Students will complete the pré-lecture where they look up keywords that will appear in the reading comprehension sheet. They will also make predictions based on the title of the text. Students will then read the reading comprehension text by highlighting les mots amis and les mots familiers to facilitate their understanding of the text.
5. PowerPoint Presentation (42 slides)
The presentation contains some background information and photos, birthdates and interesting facts on all 30 famous residents featured in this resource. There also blank slides provided so that you can add your activities and extensions. Please note that the text is editable on these slides!
The Google Drive folder contains :
- PDF files (ready to print)
- Google Slides files
- you may print the Google Slides document as either a PDF or PowerPoint if you are NOT a Google school.
