Description
Looking for a fun and engaging Christmas or holiday STEM activity for your students? How to Catch an Elf is just what you need! This Christmas STEM project connects STEM and reading to make one engaging, literacy based activity. In this activity, we are linking STEAM projects to a read aloud. This activity is introduced with the book "How to Catch an Elf," by Adam Wallace and Andy Elkerton. After being drawn in by the amazing book, students will then set off to build an elf trap of their own. They must stay within a budget and can only use certain materials to build a trap that will finally catch the elf! The activities included in this pack are perfect for the month of December and for an engineering project in the days leading up to holiday break. There is enough included where you could focus on this book for a few hours OR you could come back to this a few times during the week. Because multiple subjects are integrated into this pack, you will find many ways to use the contents.

⭐ My students were SO engaged. We had a ton of fun with this problem solving activity. What a great tradition this started in my classroom.
⭐ We had a great time working in teams to create the best Elf trap. Even though this was a children's book, my middle schoolers loved it.
⭐ This was one of my favorite days of teaching. My students really got into the design and building. I also really loved that they had to budget their money to buy the supplies that they wanted.
