Holiday and Season Sentence Building Activity with Writing Pages Bundle

Are your students ready to write sentences, but having trouble getting started? These sentence building activities are the perfect first step in writing sentence independently. With this hands-on activity, students will practice using holiday-themed picture cards and high-frequency words to create a sentence. 

This sentence-building activity is a hands-on approach to learning how to build a sentence, because it does not involve students actually writing, yet. Students will pick the different word cards or picture cards to create a sentence using the pocket chart. Once students are able to formulate a complete thought or say a sentence out loud, you can try this writing activity with them.

This sentence building activity works well as a whole group writing lesson first. Use it in a pocket chart and model to your students how to move around words and re-read the sentence to make sure it makes sense. Then, you can add this activity into your ELA center rotations for students to work on together! Once students are able to create their own sentences, they can use the included writing sheets to copy the sentence onto paper.

How to Use in Your Classroom:

•Whole Group Sentence Writing Lesson: Create a sentence with your students and have them write it down using the writing sheets.

•Sentence Scramble: Put the sentence in a mixed-up order. The students have to figure out the correct sentence order.

•Center Activity: Have students create sentences in their center groups. Then, write down one of the sentences and draw a picture to match.

•Vocabulary Practice: Use the picture cards to introduce new holiday-themed vocabulary each month.
