What educators are saying

Used it as a multi day project during testing when it was unclear how often I would meet with the kids.
I used this project to help students learn about different elements on the periodic table. My students were very engaged the entire time they worked on this and enjoyed being able to work alone or with a partner and getting to choose an element.

Description

In this fun project, secondary (can be modified for middle school easily) Chemistry students work to research elements of their choice and present their learning in a creative story and poster project. The project is designed for students to work with a partner, but can easily be modified for individual or group learning. Additionally, the project is intended to be completed in a school week (five class days), but could be shortened, given over a long weekend or vacation or as optional extra credit work. Students love this project! Included are instructions, rubric, templates, research worksheets, suggested websites and timeline for teachers. Rubric can be adjusted for point value as the teacher sees fit. I incorporate this project as I finish instructing the "Atomic Structure" (just prior to Periodicity). I also highly recommend showing your Chem kiddos the "Hunting the Elements" video either prior to or after this project. A great way to introduce the elements in a fun, interactive activity!
