What educators are saying

These are well done!! I love them, but I have to split them up into several days as the students do a better job with them that way.
I use this material at the end of each unit after they have taken the test. It gives students a "break" before starting the next unit but it is still educational and interesting. It would also be an easy activity to leave when there is a sub. Very easy to incorporate into the classroom.

    Description

This bundle includes Health Occupations Stations for each body system plus a set of stations for Introduction to Healthcare. Each activity includes seven stations that students will rotate through as they learn about various aspects of health occupations, common diseases, treatments, procedures, and patient experiences.

Who is This Resource Designed For?

    • This resource is suitable for high school Anatomy and Physiology students or Health Occupations students.
    • Teaching Anatomy and Physiology? Your students can expand on what they've learned about body systems to better understand real-world healthcare experiences and disease treatment and learn about a variety of occupations in the healthcare field.
    • Teaching Health Occupations? These stations provide an engaging way for students to see how healthcare workers provide care for patients, operate equipment, perform tests, and treat a variety of diseases and conditions.

    Highlights of Health Occupations Stations:

    • Each station will take approximately 5-7 minutes for students to complete.
    • Colorful station cards and icons will help students quickly find their way through the stations and their place on the handout.
    • Discussion and extension ideas are included for teachers who would like to go into more depth.
    • An optional idea for students to keep all their station handouts organized in a medical-style folder.

    What Will Students be Doing?

Stations include a variety of activities such as:

    • reading articles
    • graphing data
    • analyzing statistics
    • watching videos
    • performing simulations
    • creating graphic organizers
    • taking skills tests

Each Health Occupation Stations activity (except for the Introduction set which is focused more on healthcare occupations and disease) is focused on one body system.

    The stations are:

    1. Medical Experts - Students will learn about the education requirements, types of patients or diseases treated, working conditions, and salary of one selected physician specialty.
    2. Expedition into Allied Health Careers - This station will teach students about the training, duties, and salary of an allied health career.

    NGSSHS-LS1-2
Develop and use a model to illustrate the hierarchical organization of interacting systems that provide specific functions within multicellular organisms. Emphasis is on functions at the organism system level such as nutrient uptake, water delivery, and organism movement in response to neural stimuli. An example of an interacting system could be an artery depending on the proper function of elastic tissue and smooth muscle to regulate and deliver the proper amount of blood within the circulatory system. Assessment does not include interactions and functions at the molecular or chemical reaction level.
    NGSSHS-LS1-3
Plan and conduct an investigation to provide evidence that feedback mechanisms maintain homeostasis. Examples of investigations could include heart rate response to exercise, stomate response to moisture and temperature, and root development in response to water levels. Assessment does not include the cellular processes involved in the feedback mechanism.
