What educators are saying

I loved this resource. Just print and use!! Time-saver for teacher. I got each student a paper copy of the quadrilateral and the triangle hierarchy. It helped the students with the task cards.
My students struggle with understanding the hierarchy. Anything to help visualize it seems to help them grasp the concept.

Description

Geometry is looking quite different in 5th grade than in years past. Students have to categorize polygons in different hierarchies and subsets along with classifying triangles by their sides and angles.

What's in the download?

• 50 task cards

• For cards 1-24, match the given shape picture with its correct name. Write your matches on the recording sheet.

• For cards 25-34, put them under the correct heading card: True or False. If the statement is false, justify your reasoning on your recording sheet.

• For cards 35-42, answer questions based on hierarchies.

• For cards 43-50, multiple choice and/or open-ended questions.

• There are also 3, full page hierarchy posters for display!

• Recording sheet – 2 versions (one has more spaces for students that need it)

• Answer Key

These cards will challenge your students and ask them to answer questions based on hierarchy sets, answer open ended questions as well as multiple choice practice, sort and classify polygons, and answer and justify true/false statements.

*NOTE: If your students need more practice, I have bundled this product and 10 activity sheets- perfect for workbooks, homework or assessments here!

These are perfect for...

• Independent center or station rotations

• Activity for fast finishers

• Small group or intervention activities

• Homework option

• Enrichment or remediation depending on student level

• Assessment prep

• Progress monitoring

• Use as a ticket out the door, picking one out of the stack to complete as a quick check or spiral throughout the year.

This document is aligned to Texas Standard: 5.5A Classifying 2D figures in a hierarchy of sets and subsets and Common Core Standards: 5.G.B.3 and 5.G.B.4

Understand that attributes belonging to a category of two-dimensional figures also belong to all subcategories of that category. For example, all rectangles have four right angles and squares are rectangles, so all squares have four right angles.
Classify two-dimensional figures in a hierarchy based on properties.
