What educators are saying

This was visually far more informative than several of the other diagrams I have seen/used. Thank you.
This unit allowed my students to explore feudalism in depth before a culminating meet-up! Great resource!

This is a PowerPoint, Poster and Worksheet set used to introduce students to the hierarchical structure of Feudal England and Manorialism, from the Conquest (1066) to Black Death (1347). I've used a variant of this PowerPoint for the last three years with Grade 8 History students at my high school: it has remained engaging for the students and seems to explain the hierarchy well, so I continue to reuse it every year!

Before starting this series of slides, my students will have covered the Battle of Hastings; generally I follow it with The Black Death.

Topics covered:

- Feudal Pyramid with information slides on King, Nobility, Knights, Peasants, Craftsmen and the Church.

- William I (the Conqueror) - briefly.

- Domesday Book - briefly.

- Manor / Manorialism systems

- Everyday life for the peasants including farming, yearly calendar, living conditions.

Included in the ZIP File is:

- PowerPoint, including animated step by step guide to the Feudal Pyramid, information slides, and a section on Manorialism

- PDF of the complete Feudal Pyramid to print as a class poster.

- 3 page Worksheet to compliment the Slides: I have my students complete the worksheet while they listen, stopping to ensure they keep up. This is an engagement tactic.

I've also included a list of useful websites on Feudalism, which may be handy for new educators.
