What educators are saying

Great resource for my students to use for their final ArtsED project. They were thoroughly engaged.
Loved using this resource with students. Major time saver for me. Definitely an engaging and thorough resource.

Description

This editable Famous Artist Research Project is a great way to help middle school or high school students dive deeper into learning about an artist. This research paper and artwork assignment can be used for:

  • Art and art history classes
  • Spanish, French, or other language classes studying artists who speak that language (but please note this resource is entirely in English)
  • Helping students learn more about Black artists during Black History Month, Hispanic artists during Hispanic Heritage Month, or women artists during Women's History Month!

This resource includes:

  1. Artist Research Project: Student Instructions (both fixed and editable files)
  2. Grading Rubric (both fixed and editable files)
  3. Artist Note-Taking Sheet
  4. Suggested Internet Resources
  5. Student Guidance on Citing Sources
  6. Artist Lists and Fact Sheets for easy grading... includes a list of 100 famous artists, plus lists of Women Artists, African-American Artists, Hispanic Artists, and French Artists (all lists come in both fixed and editable files).

This project was designed by an art teacher with over a decade of experience teaching art and art history. This project was used in class for many years and tweaked for ease of use for both teachers and students.

The Artist Research Project is divided into two parts for students. The first part is the written research paper, and the second part of the project is creating artwork in the style of the artist.

To teach students about a range of artists to prepare them for this project, I recommend looking into the Artist PowerPoints offered in my TpT store, All About Art. Each PowerPoint contains the biographical information needed to assist students in completing their research project, plus several slides of that artist's work. Choose from dozens of individual artist PowerPoints, or consider one of these discounted bundles:
