Description
These document resources help learners analyse the information presented in job advertisements. It guides learners to scan for relevant information organised under headings and to think about what information is missing or what they need to find out about. The information that learners analyse includes employability skills and the activity helps learners understand the difference between occupational and employability skills. Learners identify the employability skills in the job advertisement and think about how they can demonstrate these skills for the job they are applying. Answers include example paragraphs of how these skills can be demonstrated.

SUGGESTED USE
I recommend introducing students to the concept of employability skills first through one of the websites or resources I have listed below. Employability skills are much more than soft skills or occupational skills.
I have used this activity during a unit of work on employability skills. It has helped them understand what employers are looking for and how to read employment advertisements.
Accompanying resources include the Identifying employability skills worksheet and the Employability skills introductory video both available in my store. This is the order of teaching I suggest.
- Start with the introductory video and PPT.
- Next, complete the job advertisement worksheet.
- Finally, writing activity worksheet to wrap up.
