Description

(Hieroglyphics; Ancient Egypt; Egyptian Hieroglyphics; Writing Hieroglyphics)

This bundle includes two of my Ancient Egyptian activities using hieroglyphics.

Please note that this resource is also included in my "Less Mess" Ancient Egypt Interactive Notebook Activities.

1. Website Sleuths- Egyptian Hieroglyphics

Your students will enjoy being "web detectives" with this web scavenger hunt activity on Egyptian hieroglyphics. Students will use the provided website to look up the answers to ten questions about hieroglyphics.

Space is provided under each question for students to write the answers in their own words. An answer key is also provided for teacher convenience or to allow students to check their own work.

This activity works well independently or with a partner. It also makes a great literacy/computer station activity.

After your students have completed the web search, they could then complete the graphic organizer to show facts they have learned in a decorative way.

On the organizer. students could:

a. record facts they learned in their web search

b. record facts NOT on the question sheet (other facts)

c. record facts they found most interesting

d. record facts from a different website provided by you

The graphic organizers can be colored and make a great bulletin board display when done!

Please view the thumbnails in the individual listing to see how the web questions and graphic organizers are arranged. Answer keys are also provided.

2. Writing in Egyptian Hieroglyphics

I hope your students will enjoy learning more about Egyptian hieroglyphics with this ready to use activity.

Students can use the hieroglyphic guide provided while they create Ancient Egyptian cartouches. They can write their names or whatever you/they choose.

The finished cartouches can be colored and make a great bulletin board display when done.

Students can then write a mystery message in hieroglyphics. Have them write a fact about what they are learning in your Ancient Egypt unit or even a funny joke or riddle. Then have them partner up with classmates to “crack the code” and decipher the messages.
