Economics of Western Expansion in America Cross Curricular Social Studies & Math

This is a short passage about an entrepreneur moving west not to find gold but to grow fruit. It is a true story about a man who carried fruit trees in his wagon going west. There are 6 math word problems that utilize money and economics as well as decision making. There are four economics related questions pertaining to the passage and a critical thinking chart to complete. Students will read for information, demonstrate understanding of economic concepts of supply and demand as well as opportunity cost. Students will analyze and interpret graphic information and data as well as practice decimal skills, estimating and number relationships.
