Solar and lunar eclipses are interesting to learn about. Students will understand the reason for eclipses and how and when eclipses occur. Students will make a model of an eclipse and read an informational text passage on lunar and solar eclipses. Students will understand that the relationship between the Sun, moon, and Earth is the reason for eclipses. Students will love these varied activities on eclipses. This unit should take about three days to complete. MS-ESS1-1

Utah SEEd 6.1.1 Develop and use a model of the Sun-Earth-Moon system to describe the cyclic patterns of lunar phases, eclipses of the Sun and Moon, and seasons. Examples of models could be physical, graphical, or conceptual.
